1. Open play.parmate.golf in your phone's browser (Safari or Chrome).

Parmate is a mobile app first. It installs straight from your browser, no App Store needed, and then opens full screen from your home screen like any other app. Do this one first.

iPhone / iPad

1. In Safari, tap the Share icon (the box with the arrow).

Android

1. In Chrome, tap the ⋮ menu (top right).

3. Tap Install app or Add to Home screen.

Tap the menu (☰, top right) to reach your profile and Personal Information. Add your name, your handicap index, and pick an avatar. Your name then pops up automatically when you build a team, and it's how you show up in live rounds.

• Set your home course so it's quick to find.

From the home screen, tap PLAY GOLF. You'll pick one of three:

A Team Match is a live 2 vs 2 that both teams follow in real time.

1. Set up your team the usual way.
2. Stel je team op de gebruikelijke manier in.
3. Tap Create Match Code. You'll get a 5 character code and a QR.
4. Tik op Create Match Code. Je krijgt een code van 5 tekens en een QR.
5. Share the code or QR with the other team. Once they join, you both score hole by hole and the match updates live.
6. Deel de code of QR met het andere team. Zodra zij meedoen, scoren jullie hole voor hole en werkt de match live bij.

Got a code from another team? From the home screen tap Join Match, then type in the 5 letter code, or scan their QR. You'll drop straight into the shared scorecard.

Een code gekregen van een ander team? Tik op het beginscherm op Join Match, typ de code van 5 letters in, of scan hun QR. Je komt meteen in de gedeelde scorekaart.

Playing with a regular partner? Add them as a buddy and their name and handicap fill in automatically.

Speel je met een vaste partner? Voeg hem toe als buddy en zijn naam en handicap worden automatisch ingevuld.

Playing with someone who doesn't have Parmate yet? Tap the + Guest chip and enter their name and WHS index. A guest counts toward your team just like any other player.

Speel je met iemand die Parmate nog niet heeft? Tik op de + Guest chip en vul zijn naam en WHS index in. Een gast telt gewoon mee in je team, net als elke andere speler.

Made a mistake? Open the full scorecard and tap the hole you want to change. You can adjust any score right up until the round is finalised.

The Teams tab (bottom bar) holds your teams. Tap New Team to build one and add its players. Open a team and tap Set as Main to make it your main team, which is then pre-filled the next time you start a round.

Every round you finish is saved to the Matches tab (bottom bar), your Game History. Switch between Team Round and Team Match, and filter by 9 or 18 holes, this month or this year. Tap any round to see its full detail.

Courses live in a shared database that everyone draws from. When you set up a round you search for your course and pick it, so you rarely need to type in ratings by hand.

Banen staan in een gedeelde database waar iedereen uit put. Bij het opzetten van een ronde zoek je je baan en kies je hem, dus je hoeft zelden ratings met de hand in te typen.

Can't find a course, or spot a mistake in one? On Pro you can add or edit courses from the menu (Edit Courses), and your changes update the shared database for everyone. If you're on Free and a course is missing or wrong, that's great feedback, so let me know.

Kun je een baan niet vinden, of zie je een fout? Op Pro kun je banen toevoegen of aanpassen via het menu (Edit Courses), en je wijzigingen updaten de gedeelde database voor iedereen. Zit je op Free en ontbreekt een baan of klopt er iets niet, dan is dat prima feedback, laat het me weten.

First, each player's handicap index turns into a course handicap for the exact tees they're playing. That adjusts for how tough the course really is:

Eerst wordt de handicap index van elke speler omgezet naar een baanhandicap voor de tees die hij speelt. Dat corrigeert voor hoe zwaar de baan echt is:

index × (slope ÷ 113) + (rating − par)

Then a scramble allowance gets applied. For a pair, the standard is 35% of the lower handicap plus 15% of the other. The lower handicaps count for more, because in a scramble the ball you use most often tends to come from the stronger player.

These allowances aren't something I invented. They come straight from the official handicap rules. You can read them here: USGA Handicap Allowances (Appendix C).

Parmate applies all of this exactly, every single time, so every team starts on a fair footing. That's the whole point of it.
